SafeStar® mechanical breathing system filters provide protection against bacteria and viruses without the need for humidifiers. Mechanical and other breathing system filters in the operating theatre, intensive care unit and other environments help to prevent cross-contamination, which is a risk with mechanical ventilation. To support the hospital and adequately address specific challenges such as these, Dräger offers a comprehensive range of high performance HMEs and breathing air filters such as the SafeStar® family of filters.
Dräger's SafeStar mechanical HEPA breathing system filters meet the highest standards of infection prevention during mechanical ventilation. The active medium of these mechanical filters is a hydrophobic filter membrane made of coated glass fibre, which was specially developed for this purpose. Thanks to its hydrophobic properties, the SafeStar mechanical filter prevents the passage of potentially contaminated fluids (blood, sputum, condensate) under the normal pressure conditions of mechanical ventilation. SafeStar is therefore able to prevent the passage of microorganisms contained in liquids. In addition, the mechanical medium of the SafeStar breathing system filter with its very high bacterial and viral filtration efficiency reduces the passage of microorganisms from the air to a very high degree. This contributes to a significant reduction in the risk of cross-contamination.
