Berk Ganesha, 5.7 cm in detail
Ganesha, the most popular of all Indian gods, is worshipped as the son of Parvati and Shiva. It is said that Parvati created a son out of loneliness while Shiva withdrew to meditate. When Shiva returned, he was so angry that he cut off Ganesha's head. However, when he realised what he had done, he placed the head of an elephant on Ganesha's body to bring him back to life. This created a new god who combined the powers of Shiva and Parvati.
Ganesha is often invoked to remove obstacles, which is why he is a favourite patron saint for business people. He brings material and spiritual prosperity and is therefore also worshipped during new ventures or phases of life such as a move or a new job to receive blessings and good fortune.
Ganesha has four arms that symbolise the four aspects of the subtle body: Mind, ego, spirit and consciousness.
