EarPlanes® earplugs for adults in detail
Problematic earache when travelling? No more with EarPlanes®!
For many air travellers, earache is an unpleasant problem, especially during the landing approach when the pressure in the cabin increases rapidly and the ear has difficulty adapting. The result: painful inward bulging of the eardrum and possibly even temporary hearing loss or haemorrhaging in the eardrum, known as "barotrauma".
The solution: EarPlanes®
EarPlanes are special earplugs that use an integrated ceramic filter to equalise air pressure differences between the inner ear and the surrounding air. Developed in collaboration with the renowned House Ear Institute in Los Angeles and successfully tested by US Navy pilots, they offer a comfortable and safe way to avoid such problems.
How do EarPlanes® work?
These earplugs are made of soft, hypoallergenic silicone that creates an airtight seal in the ear canal. The integrated ceramic filter enables a controlled exchange of air between the inner ear and the environment, which equalises strong pressure fluctuations and gradually adapts the ear to the changing cabin pressure.
Who are EarPlanes® suitable for?
EarPlanes are suitable for all air travellers, especially those who have problems with pressure equalisation. They also offer relief when travelling by car in mountainous terrain or on draughty routes with many tunnels. Passengers with colds, allergies or sinus problems will particularly benefit from their use. Children whose ears swell up more quickly and who often cannot help themselves by yawning or swallowing also benefit from EarPlanes.
Instructions for use
For effective pressure equalisation, EarPlanes must be inserted deep into each ear before take-off until they form an airtight seal. After reaching cruising altitude, they can be removed, but must be reinserted about an hour before landing. On short flights, it is advisable to leave EarPlanes in the ear for the entire flight. After landing, they can be removed as soon as the cabin doors are open.
It is recommended that EarPlanes are only used for one flight (outward and return journey including stopovers), as the micropores of the ceramic filter can become clogged by dirt and dust in the air, which could impair their effectiveness.
