Erler Zimmer obstetric training manikin in detail
The obstetric training manikin is a versatile training device that has been specially developed for midwives. It enables comprehensive training options and offers the opportunity to practise various techniques and situations during labour. The manikin consists of individual interchangeable modules that can be used to train Leopold manoeuvres, breast care, vaginal examinations of labour progress, various birth positions, birth simulation, episiotomy and examinations of women who have recently given birth.
The manikin also contains a heart sound simulation that can be used to listen to the foetus's heartbeat. Thanks to the use of a special plastic, the mannequin feels realistic and behaves realistically during training. Particular emphasis was placed on the representation of realistic details, for example the vulva stretches like a real vulva during birth.
The model offers the advantage that the complete birth situation can be practised in the actual position, as it is a full-body manikin.
The set contains various modules, which are divided as follows:
- Pregnancy module: This module can be used to simulate pregnancy weeks 36-40. It contains an amniotic sac with foetus, a heartbeat simulation and an abdominal wall with breasts. It is suitable for practising Leopold manoeuvres, palpation examinations and checking the heartbeat. The amniotic sac can be used in various positions to simulate different positions of the baby. It also offers the opportunity to practise breast care and breastfeeding.
- Birth Stages Module: This module can be used to perform the Bishop score. It contains three different stages of the cervix and a foetal head. The foetal head can be inserted in different positions and cranial sutures and fontanelles can be felt. All inserts can be rotated and adjusted in depth.
- Obstetrics module: With this module, births can be practised in various common positions. The flexible vulva made of a new, extremely stretchy material behaves very realistically so that perineal protection can be optimally practised. It also contains a newborn doll on which the initial examination and suctioning can be practised. A realistic umbilical cord and placenta complete the model. Births in the breech position can also be demonstrated.
- Episiotomy module: This module contains interchangeable inserts for perineal incisions so that the closure of the perineum can be practised. The inserts can be reused if the sutures are carefully removed.
- Aftercare module: This module contains four different uterine inserts that can be used to perform postnatal palpation and measurements. It contains three normal uteri (first, third and fifth day) and one abnormal uterus (first day). The abdominal wall also contains breasts for practising breast care.
