Erler Zimmer paediatric lumbar puncture simulator in detail
The simulation lumbar puncture simulator for children is a didactic model for practising lumbar punctures in children. During this diagnostic procedure, a sample of cerebrospinal fluid is taken, the cerebrospinal fluid pressure is measured or medication is injected directly into the spinal canal. The model shows a 10-12 month old child in the left lateral position with neck and knees bent, as required for a real lumbar puncture. The iliac crest is realistically represented, while the spine, spinal canal and skin-like pad can be removed for easy and stress-free practice. The lumbar puncture can be performed in the L3-L4, L4-L5 or L5-S1 spaces. The correct position can be determined by feeling the iliac crest and the spine. The material yields slightly when the spinal needle is slowly inserted into the correct space. When the needle is correctly placed, fluid flows out. This model offers learners the opportunity to familiarise themselves with performing this complicated but common procedure, as it is both attractive and anatomically correct.
Advantages:
- Focuses on important skills in paediatric lumbar punctures
- Touching anatomical landmarks
- Preparing the skin
- Positioning and inserting the needle
- Collection of cerebrospinal fluid
- Measurement of cerebrospinal fluid pressure
- Injection of medication into the spinal canal
Features:
- Anatomically correct and palpable
- Correct body positioning
- Easily replaceable lumbar puncture pad
- Realistic resistance
- Simulated fluid release upon successful puncture
The paediatric lumbar puncture simulator is attached to a stable plate to ensure the necessary stability during training. The child measures 48 x 18 x 15 cm and the plate measures 50 x 30 cm.
Includes: a training model of a child for paediatric lumbar puncture on a stable plate, a lumbar puncture pad with spinal cord and spinal canal, an intravenous infusion bag with tubes, baby powder, a hard case and instructions for use. A holder for the fluid supply and a needle are not included in the scope of delivery.
