Hexoral 0.1% solution in detail

The total dose should not be exceeded without consulting a doctor or pharmacist.

Method of use?

Rinse the oral cavity with the medicine.
Or: Gargle with the medicine.
Leave the medicine to act for 1/2 minute.
Then spit out the medicine and avoid swallowing.
Or: Dab the medicine onto the oral mucosa. Use clean cotton swabs for this. The medicine should only be used if safe handling of the medicine is ensured.

Duration of use?

You should not use the medicine long-term without medical advice. If symptoms persist or recur regularly, you should consult your doctor.

Overdose?

An overdose may cause nausea. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor immediately.
In general: Pay particular attention to conscientious dosing, especially with infants, small children and the elderly. If in doubt, ask your doctor or pharmacist about any effects or precautions.
A dosage prescribed by a doctor may differ from the information on the package leaflet. As the doctor will adjust it individually, you should therefore use the medicine according to his instructions.

What speaks against use?

- Hypersensitivity to the ingredients
- Bronchial tubes that react hypersensitively, e.g. for:
- Bronchial asthma
- Wounds in the oral mucosa, both deep and superficial wounds
- Ulcers of the oral mucosa

What age group should be considered?

- Infants and small children under 2 years of age: The medicinal product must not be used.
- Children under 6 years of age: The medicine may only be used after consultation with a doctor or under medical supervision.
What about pregnancy and breastfeeding?
- Pregnancy: Consult your doctor. Various considerations play a role in whether and how the medicine can be used during pregnancy.
- Lactation: Consult your doctor or pharmacist. They will check your particular situation and advise you accordingly on whether and how you can continue breastfeeding.
If you have been prescribed the medicine despite a contraindication, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. The therapeutic benefit may be greater than the risk associated with use in the case of a contraindication.

What adverse effects can occur?

What should you be aware of?

- Caution in case of allergy to the sweetener saccharin (E number E 954)!
- The medicine contains small amounts of alcohol and should therefore be avoided by alcoholics.
- Take care if you are allergic to colourings (e.g. tartrazine (E 102), yellow orange S (E 110), azorubin (E 122), amaranth (E 123) and Ponceau 4R (E 124)).
- There may be medicines with which interactions occur. You should therefore generally inform your doctor or pharmacist of any other medicine you are already taking before starting treatment with a new medicine. This also applies to medicines that you buy yourself, use only occasionally or have been using for some time.

How does the active ingredient of the medicine work?

The active ingredient combats various bacteria and fungi by disrupting the energy production of the microorganisms. As a result, the pests no longer grow and hardly reproduce. The active ingredient remains on the mucous membranes.

Application

- Reduction of the bacterial count on mucous membranes, such as for:

- Inflammation of the oral mucosa (stomatitis)

- Throat inflammation (pharyngitis)

- Gum inflammation (gingivitis)

- Prevention of inflammation during operations in the mouth and throat

Dosage

General dosage recommendation

- For gargling:10-15 ml

- twice daily

- children aged 12 and over, adolescents and adults

- in the morning and evening, after a meal
