How do the ingredients of the medicine work?
The ingredients come from the St John's wort plant and act as a natural mixture. About the plant itself:
- Appearance: undemanding perennial shrub that grows to a height of around 60 cm and loves sunny locations. Characteristic are the translucent, dotted leaves, which contain essential oil in these light-coloured areas. In contrast, the bright yellow petals have dark dots that contain a red-coloured ôl, St. John's wort oil.
- Occurrence: Europe, North Africa, West and East Asia, Siberia, Belarus, North and South America, Australia and New Zealand
- Main ingredients: Hypericin, hyperforin
- Plant parts and preparations used: Extracts and tinctures from the tips of the herb's twigs
Hypericin and hyperforin are the colouring components of red St. John's wort oil. The ingredients have a nerve-soothing, sleep-promoting and mood-enhancing effect.
