Nizoral 2% cream in detail
Nizoral® 2% Cream is an effective medicine for the external treatment of fungal diseases of the skin, also known as dermatomycoses. These include common infections such as athlete's foot and lower leg fungus as well as thrush caused by yeast fungi. The active ingredient ketoconazole effectively combats the pathogens that cause these infections and helps to quickly alleviate symptoms.
How to use
The cream should be applied 1-2 times a day to the affected skin areas and the surrounding skin surface (approx. 1-2 cm). It is important to continue application for a sufficient period of time as directed by your doctor or pharmacist, even if the symptoms have already subsided.
Ingredients
- Active ingredient: 20 mg ketoconazole per gram of cream
- Excipients: stearyl alcohol, cetyl alcohol, water, purified, disodium sulphite, isopropyl myristate, 200 mg propylene glycol, polysorbate 60, polysorbate 80, sorbitan stearate
Dosage
The recommended dose depends on the type and severity of the skin infection. The cream is generally applied for 2-6 weeks to achieve optimum results. The average duration of treatment for thrush is about 2-3 weeks, for fungal infections 2-4 weeks depending on localisation and for fungal infections on the feet 4-6 weeks.
Side effects
Like all medicines, Nizoral® 2 % Cream can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Common side effects include burning, reddening of the skin and itching at the application site. Hypersensitivity reactions may occur less frequently. In the event of adverse reactions, you should consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Warnings and precautions
It is important to avoid contact of the cream with the eyes. In case of accidental contact, rinse thoroughly with water. During use, you should not apply cortisone-containing medicines directly to the same area of skin unless this has been discussed with your doctor.
Interactions
Tell your doctor or pharmacist about any other medicines you are taking to avoid possible interactions. There is no evidence that Nizoral® 2 % Cream influences the effect of other medicines.
