Otalgan® ear drops are pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory ear drops for the treatment of painful, acute inflammatory diseases of the middle ear and external ear infections. These drops are only to be used if the eardrum is intact and provide rapid relief from symptoms.
Active ingredients
- 50 mg phenazone
- 10 mg procaine hydrochloride
Excipients
- 0.1 mg butylhydroxyanisole
- 939.9 mg glycerol
Indication
- For local symptomatic treatment of pain in the external auditory canal and in acute otitis media.
Dosage
- Infants and schoolchildren up to 14 years: 2-3 drops, 3-4 times daily
- Adolescents from 15 years and adults: 5 drops, 3-4 times daily
How to use
- Apply ear drops at body temperature.
- Drip into the ear canal while lying on your side.
- Maintain lateral position for about 15 minutes, then close ear loosely with cotton wool.
Side effects
- Very rare: Hypersensitivity reactions such as skin changes or urticaria.
- In case of damaged eardrum: painful discomfort possible.
Interactions
- Do not use together with sulphonamides and benzylpenicillin.
Contraindications
- Pyrazolone allergy
- Hypersensitivity to ingredients
- Damaged eardrum or ear canal inflammation with skin injury
- Hepatic porphyria, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
- Use only after consulting a doctor.
Patient information
- Use in chronic otitis media only under medical supervision.
- For children under 3 years of age only under medical supervision.

- Close the ear canal with cotton wool after use, as this may impair hearing.
