How do the ingredients of the medicine work?
The ingredients come from the passionflower plant and act as a natural mixture. About the plant itself:
- Appearance: climbing, lush shrub with three-lobed leaves and corkscrew-like tendrils in the leaf axils; large, characteristic white-purple flowers
- Occurrence: south-eastern North America
- Main constituents: flavonoids (vitexin), gynocardin, essential oils
- Plant parts and preparations used: mainly extracts of the dried herb
In animal experiments, passion flower extracts show calming and antispasmodic properties.
