Maldon Sea Salt Flakes 150 g in detail
Maldon Sea Salt Flakes - Product description
Maldon Sea Salt is produced in Maldon, England, by the Maldon Sea Salt Company. This family business has been in existence since 1882 and is the only one to produce this special salt. It is proud to be the purveyor to the British Royal Court.
Maldon salt is a purely natural product with no additives and contains plenty of minerals and trace elements, just like other sea salts. It has a drier consistency compared to other sea salts such as fleur de sel.
Although Maldon salt is categorised as sea salt, it is not extracted directly from the sea. The area around Maldon lies at sea level and is surrounded by marshland. Seawater enters the area through the Blackwater River, which is considered the saltiest river in England, when it is flooded during spring tides. The salty water is purified in large tanks from the mud it carries and then channelled into salt pans where it is boiled. Impurities rise to the surface and can be removed. The slow cooling process produces salt crystals, which are removed from the surface of the water with a rake and dried. Maldon salt is characterised by its pyramid-shaped structure, which contributes to the good taste of the salt.
