Symbioflor 2 in detail
Symbioflor® 2 is a bacterial preparation for the treatment of gastrointestinal complaints, particularly irritable bowel syndrome (irritable colon). It contains Escherichia coli autolysate and is used to relieve symptoms such as flatulence, abdominal pain and diarrhoea. A doctor should be consulted in the event of prolonged or severe pain.
Active ingredients and excipients
- Active ingredient: 15-45 million Escherichia coli autolysate with cells
- Excipients: magnesium chloride-6-water, magnesium sulphate-7-water, purified water, sodium chloride, potassium chloride, calcium chloride-2-water
Dosage
- Adults: Start with 10 drops three times a day during meals. After one week, increase the dose to 20 drops three times a day.
- If symptoms worsen, take the drops diluted in water or in smaller quantities.
- The duration of use is 8 weeks. If there is no improvement, consult a doctor.
Instructions for use
- Shake the medicine well before use until it becomes slightly cloudy.
- If you forget to take the medicine, do not take twice the amount, but continue taking it as usual.
- The diagnosis of "irritable bowel syndrome" should be confirmed by a doctor before use.
Side effects
- Frequent: abdominal pain, hives
- Occasional: flatulence, nausea, diarrhoea
- Inform your doctor if you experience any side effects.
Interactions
- Antibiotics can impair the effectiveness of Symbioflor® 2.
- Do not take the preparation during antibiotic treatment or within 5 days of its completion.
Contraindications
- Do not use if you are allergic to Escherichia coli bacteria or any of the excipients.
- Do not use in case of severe organic gastrointestinal diseases or extreme weight loss.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
- Only use after careful risk-benefit assessment by a doctor.
Patient information
- Do not take during acute febrile illnesses.
- Discontinue treatment in case of acute diarrhoea with high fever or blood admixture and in case of prolonged unclear gastrointestinal complaints.
- No dosage recommendation for children and adolescents, as safety and efficacy have not been established.
