The correct treatment of the skin, whether healthy or diseased, is based on three components. Firstly, proper skin cleansing to remove dirt and pollutants. This is followed by skin care to restore lost moisture, oils and moisturising substances to the skin and maintain or restore its ideal condition. Finally, there is skin protection, which serves to prevent skin diseases and protect the condition of the skin.
Problems with skin cleansing:
Skin cleansing puts a strain on the protective acid mantle and bacterial flora. The frequent use of cleansing products with high pH values (e.g. alkaline soaps) is particularly unfavourable. Modern (mild) skin cleansers minimise the stress on the acid mantle and healthy skin quickly returns to a normal condition.
The selection of skin care products is based on the following criteria:
- Skin condition
- Body region
- Presence of skin diseases, including the degree of inflammation
If the wrong skin care products are used, the condition can worsen even if the skin was originally healthy.
The NERIBAS® medical skincare range in pharmacies offers an inexpensive, gentle and well-tolerated alternative to expensive creams that are often sold in drugstores and perfumeries. The range includes cream, ointment and oily ointment and therefore offers the optimum care for almost every skin type. It contains no fragrances or lanolin.
An ointment is diluted into a cream by adding water. A cream is a so-called O/W emulsion, in which a little oil is mixed with a lot of water. Examples of this are day creams and moisturisers. They are less greasy and moisturise the skin without leaving a shiny film. Creams have a semi-solid consistency and do not form an evaporation barrier like ointments, so water is released unhindered from the skin into the environment. The evaporation of the water creates a pleasant cooling effect. However, the emulsifiers contained in creams can damage the protective lipids of the corneal cells. They are therefore not suitable for the care of very dry skin, but are recommended for oily skin or acute skin inflammation.
