Bell with dorje
The bell is an important ritual object in Buddhism. It is always present in monasteries and home altars, together with the dorje. While the bell symbolises the path to enlightenment, the dorje represents the masculine power of the path. Both together symbolise the dualistic character of the world. When they ring together, we find our way back to unity. In ancient Tibetan culture, the bell was also used to summon spirits and make contact with them. The bell is therefore a wonderful instrument for initiating meditation. It helps us to consciously focus on the moment and feel our inner centre.
