Duration of use?

You should not use the medicine for longer than 2 weeks without medical advice. If your symptoms persist or recur regularly, you should consult your doctor.

Overdose?

No overdose symptoms are known. If in doubt, consult your doctor.
As a general rule: Pay particular attention to conscientious dosing, especially with infants, small children and older people. If in doubt, ask your doctor or pharmacist about any effects or precautionary measures.
A dosage prescribed by a doctor may differ from the information in the package leaflet. As the doctor will personalise it, you should therefore use the medicine according to his instructions.

What speaks against use?

Always:
  • Hypersensitivity to the ingredients
  • Phosphate deficiency
  • Myastenia gravis
Under certain circumstances - talk to your doctor or pharmacist:
Impaired kidney function
Which age group should be considered?

What about pregnancy and breastfeeding?

Breastfeeding: According to current knowledge, there is no indication that the medicine should not be used during breastfeeding.
If you have been prescribed the medicine despite a contraindication, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. The therapeutic benefit may be greater than the risk of using the medicine if there is a contraindication.

What adverse effects can occur?

Long-term use of high doses in particular can cause

  • Gastrointestinal complaints, such as:
  • Soft stools
  • Diarrhoea
  • Elevated magnesium levels
  • Increased aluminium levels
  • Phosphate deficiency

If you notice any discomfort or change during treatment, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
The information provided here primarily covers side effects that occur in at least one in 1,000 patients treated.

What should you bear in mind?

  • The medicine may mask symptoms that indicate a serious illness. You should therefore consult your doctor before taking the medicine if you have prolonged symptoms.
  • Take care if you are allergic to the sweetener saccharin (E number E 954)!
  • There may be medicines with which interactions occur. You should therefore generally inform your doctor or pharmacist of any other medicine you are already taking before starting treatment with a new medicine. This also applies to medicines that you buy yourself, use only occasionally or have been using for some time.
  • Lemonade, orange juice, lemon juice, fruit juice, wine and citric acid (e.g. as an excipient in effervescent tablets) must not be taken together with the medicine.

How does the active ingredient of the medicine work?

The active ingredient binds and neutralises stomach acid. The aluminium and magnesium contained in the compound form salts that are difficult to dissolve with stomach acid and are excreted in the stools. In this way, it is effective against heartburn, belching and other acid-related stomach complaints. It also reduces the risk of ulcers occurring in the gastrointestinal tract as a result of hyperacidity.
