What are infusion needles?

Infusion needles are required for two purposes:

  1. To inject medication or liquids into the body
  2. To be able to remove liquids (e.g. blood)

Important: All infusion needles have a best -before date (usually five years) and must be replaced after this date has been exceeded. This also applies to needles that are still sterile and in their original packaging.

When are infusion needles used?

Depending on the application, infusion needles can be used to create different entrances. Some of these accesses are:

Intravenous access: With this access, medication and liquids can be injected directly into the bloodstream. Often the arm veins and veins are used on the neck.

Intraossary access: Here, medication or liquids can be administered directly into the bone marrow. This access is used particularly often with great blood loss or with difficulties with venous access. All common medication and liquids can be administered intraosently.
