Benzaknen Wash 5% in detail

The total dose should not be exceeded without consulting a doctor or pharmacist.

Type of application?

Drop the medicine onto the affected skin area(s). After application, the medicine should be left to work for 1-2 minutes and then the foam formed should be washed off with plenty of water. Wash your hands thoroughly after use. Avoid accidental contact with mucous membranes or the areas around the mouth, nose and eyes.

Duration of use?

The duration of use depends on the nature of the symptoms and/or the course of the disease. The average duration of use is 4-12 weeks.

Overdose?

In case of accidental ingestion, consult a doctor immediately. Stomach pain, nausea and vomiting may occur.

Forgetting to take the medicine?

Continue taking the medicine as normal (i.e. not with twice the prescribed amount) at the next prescribed time.
In general: Pay particular attention to conscientious dosing in infants, small children and older people. If in doubt, ask your doctor or pharmacist about any effects or precautions.
A dosage prescribed by a doctor may differ from the information on the package leaflet. Since the doctor will adjust it individually, you should therefore use the medicine according to his instructions.

Storage

Storage before opening
The medicine must be stored away from heat.
Storage after opening or preparation
The medicine must not be used for more than 6 months after opening/preparation!
The medicinal product must be stored at room temperature after opening/preparation!

What are the arguments against use?

Always:
- Hypersensitivity to the ingredients

- Dry skin with a tendency to allergies
Which age group should be considered?
- Children under 12 years of age: The medicine should generally not be used in this age group.
What about pregnancy and breastfeeding?
- Pregnancy: Consult your doctor. Various considerations play a role in whether and how the medicine can be used during pregnancy.
- Breastfeeding: Consult your doctor or pharmacist. He or she will check your particular situation and advise you accordingly on whether and how you can continue breastfeeding.
If you have been prescribed the medicine despite a contraindication, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. The therapeutic benefit may be greater than the risk associated with use in the case of a contraindication.

What adverse effects can occur?

- Local irritation at the site of application, such as:
- Drying of the skin, with a feeling of tightness
- Scaling of the skin
- Burning sensation on the skin
- Itching
- Reddening of the skin
If you notice any discomfort or change during treatment, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

What should you be aware of?

- Avoid excessive UV radiation, e.g. in solariums or during extended sunbathing, because the skin reacts more sensitively during the use of the medicine.
- There may be medicines with which interactions occur. You should therefore always tell your doctor or pharmacist about any other medicine you are already using before starting treatment with a new medicine. This also applies to medicines that you buy yourself, use only occasionally or have been using for some time.

How does the active ingredient of the medicine work?

The active ingredient has antimicrobial properties and regulates excess sebum production and keratinisation of the skin. This reduces inflammation of the skin, especially in the case of acne.
