- Appearance: Approx. 50 cm high shrub with gray-green leaves with a slightly nubby surface and a hairy underside
- Occurrence: Mainly in the Mediterranean region up to the Middle East
- Main ingredients: Tannins and essential oils, which include thujone, cineole and camphor
- Plant parts and preparations used: Extracts and tinctures from flowers and especially leaves, sage oil
The essential oils of the plant inhibit the growth of bacteria, fungi and viruses. They are supported by the protein-precipitating effect of the tannins they also contain. Together, ôl and tannins reduce superficial inflammation. Sage can also relieve cramps in the digestive tract.
