How does the ingredient of the medicine work?

When applied externally, the active ingredient ketoconazole damages the outer envelope, the so-called cell membrane, of fungi growing on the skin. This envelope thus loses some of its functions, e.g. it becomes more impermeable to nutrients - the cell starves. Depending on the concentration of the active ingredient, the fungi are inhibited in their growth and reproduction or they die directly due to additional damage to the inside of the cell.
