What is medical oxygen?

In an emergency, the human body can only survive a few minutes without oxygen. But what if the air literally becomes thin? Then medical oxygen must be used to boost the oxygen supply again. Medical oxygen is one of the emergency medication and is an important part of basic medical equipment in every clinic, ambulance or doctor's office.

Different from technical vs. medical oxygen

Technical oxygen is not approved for patients because it was not cleaned up beforehand. From a molecular perspective, the difference is technical and medical oxygen. The difference is that medical oxygen official requirements such as separate filling systems, laboratory analyzes and separately cleaned gas bottles of specially trained staff are subject. In addition, medical oxygen runs after one year and must be renewed in order to be able to follow the requirements.

When is medical oxygen used?

Oxygen is the most common emergency medication used worldwide. It is used in acute or chronic states of oxygen shortage (hypoxia or hypoxemia). Such conditions occur:

  • Cardiovascular diseases
  • Gas exchange disorders of the lungs
  • Respiratory diseases
  • Atmosphere of breathing mechanics
  • Central nervous or neuromuscular disorders of breathing
  • Poisoning (e.g. carbon monoxide, zyanide)
  • Shock states of all genesis
  • Acute anemia

How do you use medical oxygen?

Use your doctor, pharmacist or the medical staff with your doctor or medical staff. Oxygen treatment with overpressure requires careful monitoring by specially trained doctors and medical staff. The duration and concentration of oxygen treatment depends on the underlying disease and should be checked regularly using blood gas controls.

The oxygen treatment can be carried out using:

  • Nasal or nasopharyngeal catheters
  • Larynx mask (rubber mask over the larynx)
  • Atmosphere (e.g. plastic, rubber mask, Venturi mask)
  • Face or oxygen tent
  • Transportable breathing device with mask
  • Endotracheal tube (ventilation hose in the trachea)

What do you have to pay attention to when storing medical oxygen?

Oxygen bottles Medical oxygen are pressure vessels and must be stored according to the "technical rules for hazardous substances (TRGS) 510". We have listed important points for storage here:

  • You should store oxygen tanks in a stand or car to prevent tilt and traps.
  • Do not store oxygen systems in non -ventilated areas such as boxes or cupboards.
  • Do not store oxygen systems near heat or ignition sources.
  • Do not store oxygen systems in the trunk of your car.
  • When transporting oxygen in a vehicle, make sure that the containers are safely positioned. In addition, a window should be slightly open to enable sufficient ventilation.
  • Avoid direct contact with liquid oxygen because it can lead to severe burns due to its extreme cold.

What do you have to pay attention to when buying a medical oxygen?

Rental bottles or property bottles

They only borrow a rental bottle. As soon as the bottle is empty, send the bottle back and get a full return.

A bottle of ownership owns them and they have to fill them up or have them filled in on site.

My doctor's needs only sells property bottles. You can fill them again with any gas provider or directly at my doctor's need. In the long run, property bottles are cheaper than rental bottles.

Dangerous goods transport

The transport of an oxygen bottle is subject to the regulations for dangerous goods, since oxygen is a fire -accelerating effect. This regulation affects medical and technical oxygen alike. Therefore, you have to expect shipping costs of 60 euros. When the oxygen bottle is empty and vaporless, the regulations are eliminated.

You need this accessories for your oxygen bottle

Oxygen stand: With an oxygen stand you have an all-round-functioning oxygen system with everything that goes with it. By the Safety chassis you can safely transport your oxygen bottle to another location. The Bottle coat Protects the oxygen bottle from damage. The Pressure reducer enables an gradual oxygen dosage. The integrated Breathing gas humidifier Reliably moisten the breathing air.

Breathing gas humidifier: Many patients suffer from their mucous membranes during treatment. The consequences can be painful inflammation and nosebleeds. The patient's breathing air is moistened with a breathing gas humidifier.

Ambu Demand valve: The Ambu Demand valve releases the oxygen on request during the Expiration phase and closes when the press is active. This will optimize the oxygen consumption and the costs.

carry bag: A carrier bag with shoulder and back belt is very suitable for the transport of oxygen.

Returning your oxygen bottle: My doctor's needs offer you to refill your medical oxygen bottle. They send them to us and get them back, filled and ready for use!
