What is an FFP3 mask?
An FFP3 mask is a respiratory protection mask that complies with the European standard EN 149 and fulfils the highest filtering standards. To receive this certification, an FFP3 mask must filter at least 99% of all particles (including aerosols, viruses, bacteria, carcinogenic or radioactive particles) and these masks are used in hospitals, doctors' surgeries and on construction sites (e.g. fine dust). All FFP3 masks that we offer are not washable and should be disposed of after single use.Important: When dealing with Covid 19 patients or suspected cases, you absolutely need an FFP3 mask without a valve. This valve is fitted to some FFP3 masks to make it easier to exhale. These masks are not suitable for protection against viruses, as they protect the wearer but not other people, and the FFP3 masks sold in our shop are certified and comply with the applicable standards. You can find all relevant certificates here:
What is the difference between FFP1, FFP2 and FFP3 masks?
FFP respirators differ mainly in terms of particle filtration:A FFP1 mask filters at least 80% of all pollutants from the air. However, this mask is not suitable for filtering radioactive, carcinogenic or other toxic substances. So-called biological agents (e.g. viruses, bacteria or fungi) of risk groups two and three are also not filtered.FFP2 masks filter at least 94% of all pollutants from the air. As with an FFP1 mask, however, an FFP2 mask does not offer any protection against radioactive, carcinogenic or other toxic substances. A FFP3 mask filters at least 99% of all harmful substances from the air. This mask also protects against radioactive, carcinogenic and biological agents in risk groups two and three.
Important note for Covid-19 protection: The renowned Robert Koch Institute recommends an FFP2 or FFP3 mask (without valve) for effective protection against the coronavirus.
