Active ingredients:
- Magnesium hydroxide (400 mg)
- aluminium hydrate
Excipients:
- Sodium saccharin
- Hydrochloric acid for pH adjustment
- mannitol
- Purified water
- Peppermint oil
- Hydrogen peroxide solution 30%
- Citric acid monohydrate
- Domiphene bromide
- Sorbitol 70
Indication:
Maaloxan® Suspension neutralises excess stomach acid and thus relieves pain and discomfort caused by heartburn, acid-related stomach complaints and stomach or duodenal ulcers.
Dosage and use:
Take the medicine exactly as directed. Usual dose: Adults take 1-2 sachets 1-2 hours after meals and before going to bed. For heartburn, take one sachet several times a day. Do not treat for longer than 2 weeks without consulting a doctor.
Duration of use:
The duration of treatment depends on the type and severity of the condition. If symptoms persist for longer than 2 weeks, consult a doctor.
Overdose:
Poisoning is unlikely, but overdose may cause stool changes, abdominal pain and vomiting. Patients with impaired kidney function should consult a doctor immediately.
Missed dose:
Continue taking at the prescribed dose without taking twice the amount.
Instructions for use:
Knead the sachet vigorously, tear open and take the contents undiluted. Take other medicines at least two hours before or after taking the suspension. Do not take gastric acid-binding medicines during treatment with certain antibiotics.
Side effects:
Frequent: Soft stools. Occasional: Diarrhoea or constipation. Very rare: Hypermagnesaemia. Hypersensitivity reactions, abdominal pain and other side effects may occur.
Interactions:
May affect the absorption and efficacy of other medicines. Inform your doctor or pharmacist about all medicines taken. Keep an interval of at least 2 hours between taking gastric acid-binding and other medicines.
Contraindications:
Do not take in case of allergy to algeldrate, magnesium hydroxide or other ingredients, severe renal failure or hypophosphataemia.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding:
Only use after consulting a doctor. Short-term use in low dosage recommended.
Patient information:
Prolonged stomach discomfort may indicate serious illness. Consult a doctor in case of tarry stools, blood in the stools or vomiting of blood. Caution with kidney disease and low phosphate diet. If kidney function is impaired, regular monitoring of aluminium and magnesium blood levels is necessary.
Use in children:
Do not use in children under 12 years of age.
