How does the ingredient of the medicine work?
The ingredients come from the bearberry plant and act as a natural mixture. About the plant itself:
- Appearance: evergreen small shrub with inverted ovoid, rough leaves, white-reddish bell-shaped flowers ripen into scarlet-red spherical fruits
- Occurrence: Europe, Asia, North America
- Main constituents: arbutin, methylarbutin, tannins
- Plant parts and preparations used: mainly extracts of the dried leaves
Arbutin and its related substances have an antibacterial effect and also inhibit the growth of fungi. It is not the arbutin itself that is effective, but it must first be converted into the active form in the body. The tannins also present support the germicidal effect of arbutin.
