- The ability to react may be impaired even when used as directed, especially at higher doses or in combination with alcohol. Pay particular attention if you are driving or operating machinery (including household machinery) that could injure you.
- Long-term use of painkillers can lead to headaches caused by the painkiller. Talk to your doctor to prevent your headaches from becoming chronic.
- The habitual use of painkillers can lead to permanent kidney damage. If several painkillers are combined or if several active ingredients are contained in one painkiller, the risk increases.
- Caution: Regular or heavy alcohol consumption can lead to life-threatening conditions due to any existing liver damage if the medication is also used.
- Caution with allergies to painkillers!
- There may be medicines with which interactions occur. You should therefore generally inform your doctor or pharmacist of any other medicine you are already taking before starting treatment with a new medicine. This also applies to medicines that you buy yourself, use only occasionally or have been using for some time.
How do the ingredients of the medicine work?
The medicine consists of a combination of active ingredients. The active ingredient paracetamol has an analgesic and antipyretic effect. It blocks the formation of certain messenger substances in the body, known as prostaglandins. These are significantly involved in the development of pain, fever and inflammation. The active ingredient dextromethorphan quells the urge to cough by paralyzing the cough center in the brain. However, to prevent mucus from building up in the airways, the substance is only suitable if the cough is completely dry. Otherwise, the suppression of expectoration would prevent the removal and expulsion of mucus, which could lead to a narrowing of the airways and thus make breathing more difficult. As the mucus remaining in the airways serves as a breeding ground for bacteria, the healing of the disease is also delayed. The active ingredient phenylpropanolamine releases a neurotransmitter (noradrenaline). It causes the blood vessels in the nasal mucous membranes to constrict, which reduces swelling and makes breathing easier. It also has an effect on the body's cardiovascular system: the pulse, heart rate and blood pressure increase.
