Types of Buddhas
The title "Buddha" is only awarded to people who have achieved salvation through their own realisation. The man who is usually referred to by this title was a historical figure named Siddhartha Gautama, who probably lived in northern India between the 6th and 5th centuries BC. The teachings he revealed (Dharma) and the monastic order he founded are still alive today and are also experiencing a renaissance in the West thanks to the active work of Tibetan lamas.

Until the age of 3000, he led a normal family life with his wife and daughter. He then achieved enlightenment after a short period of retreat.
