How do the ingredients of the medicine work?

The medicine consists of a combination of active ingredients. It contains a mixture of salts (so-called electrolytes) and sugar in a ratio in which the individual components can be optimally absorbed by the body. The sugar increases the absorption of the salts, while the citrate maintains the metabolic balance in the body between acidic and alkaline. As a result, salt losses that occur during acute diarrhea can be compensated for. When the salts are absorbed from the intestine into the body, they are followed by water, which can also counteract the sometimes massive loss of fluids during diarrhea. The medicine also contains lactic acid bacteria (Lactobacillus rhamnosus). In a healthy state, human mucous membranes are colonized by various types of bacteria. Lactic acid bacteria, including Lactobacillus, are among the most important inhabitants of the small intestine. By producing lactic acid, they create a slightly acidic environment in the intestine, which prevents the spread of unwanted pathogens. They also stimulate the immune system. Lactic acid bacteria are used to treat infections of the mucous membranes, especially in the intestinal area, e.g. diarrhea or intestinal sluggishness.
