The active ingredient lowers blood lipid levels by inhibiting the body's own production of certain fats in the liver, so-called neutral fats or triglycerides. The proportion of fats circulating in the bloodstream is thus reduced and their deposition on the inner walls of the blood vessels ("calcification") is minimised.
