The Scalibor® Protectorband offers reliable protection for dogs against ticks and the bites of the sand fly (Phlebotomus perniciosus) and the common mosquito (Culex pipiens pipiens). The active ingredient deltamethrin also protects against diseases transmitted by ticks and mosquitoes such as babesiosis, ehrlichiosis, Lyme disease, TBE, leishmaniasis and dirofilariosis.
Effect
The effectiveness of the Scalibor® Protectorband is based on several mechanisms:
- Repellent effect: the parasite is kept away from the treated host.
- Anti-feeding effect: The parasite is prevented from biting the host.
- Knock-down effect: The parasite is paralysed by the active ingredient.
- Lethal effect: The parasite is killed.
Deltamethrin, a pyrethroid, has an immediate deterrent (repellent) and rapid killing (insecticidal/acaricidal) effect on parasites. The German Association of Practising Veterinarians (bpt) and the German Society for Small Animal Medicine recommend the use of deltamethrin in accordance with their guideline on "Prevention of pathogen transmission by blood-sucking vectors in dogs".
How the Scalibor® Protectorband works
Once the Scalibor® Protectorband is applied, the active ingredient deltamethrin is distributed evenly over the dog's skin. Parasites that come into contact with the active ingredient experience coordination disorders, which leads to paralysis and rapid death. This prevents attachment and possible transmission of pathogens. Protection lasts for up to 6 months.
Application
For optimum effect, the Scalibor® Protectorband should be fixed correctly. Make sure that two fingers fit between the band and the dog's neck. Shorten the excess to about 5 cm so that the band fits well and can be adjusted as the dog grows.
Once the collar has been put on, the active ingredient is distributed evenly in the lipid layer of the skin and spreads over the dog's entire body. The band is fully effective after just two weeks.
