What does blood clotting mean?
Blood clotting is one of the vital processes and protects the body from bleeding and blood loss. The coagulation system is a connection from different cells, such as platelets, different coagulation factors and messenger substances. The blood clotting ensures that injury -related bleeding is breastfed and wound healing comes into force. However, the tendency to coagulate must not be too high, otherwise blood clots can arise and blood vessels can clog if the blood covers too quickly. So there should always be a balance between blood clotting and inhibition of coagulation in the body. Blood coagulation disorders can be attributed to errors in the genome if certain coagulation factors are not sufficiently or not functional. Another common cause of blood clotting disorders is a vitamin K deficiency that can arise from certain medications, life function disorders or certain bowel diseases. In any case, the coagulation values in the event of a blood clotting disorder must be checked regularly and the therapy adapted to it. Blood coagulation measuring devices for medical staff and self -control are effectively used. The device measures the time how quickly the blood clots and is rated as an INR value (International Normal Ratio), as an international form of consequences for the long-used quick value.
When do you check the blood clotting?
If a person is bleeding unusually long, it is checked with the help of laboratory tests whether there is a disturbance in the primary or secondary hemostasis.
What does the INR value say?
For a long time, the blood clotting time was measured as a quick value, which, however, depends heavily on the examination method in the laboratory. If quick values are measured in different laboratories, they are difficult to compare. Therefore, the value is now given as INR. The INR value is more meaningful and comparable to various test methods and laboratories. It indicates the speed of blood clotting. An INR value of 1.0 is the same as the quick value of 100 % and thus corresponds to normal blood clotting. If the value is 2.0, this means the two -time blood clotting time compared to a healthy person. With the duration of the blood clotting period, the INR value also increases. The aim is to keep the INR value in the therapeutic area, i.e. to minimize the risk of heavy bleeding and channeling.
How can the INR value be measured?
In order to determine the INR value, blood is usually removed from the vein and sent to the laboratory. For a faster result, the INR value can also be checked with the help of a blood coagulation measuring device.
