Erler Zimmer pelvis of a 5-year-old child in detail
This pelvis measures approximately 10 x 15 cm. It comes from the skeleton of an average 5-year-old child. The age was confirmed by checking the tooth eruption and the developmental stage of the bones. Sex determination from the skeleton is based on changes that occur in the pelvis and skull during puberty. In a 5-year-old child, these changes have not yet begun. The pubic bone, ilium and ischium are still completely separate, but the ischiopubic ramus is approaching the time of fusion (this occurs between 5 and 8 years of age).
