The leaves of the tea plant in particular contain L-theanine, both in black tea and in green tea. There are three different methods for isolating L-theanine. It can either be produced synthetically or extracted from tea leaves. Another method is biological extraction, in which a distinction is made between fermentation extraction and extraction using bacterial enzymes.
