Prontosan® Wound Gel in detail
Prontosan® Wound Gel - wound cleansing and moisture retention
Prontosan® Wound Gel is used to effectively clean and moisturise wounds. It can be applied liberally to the wound bed to fill cavities and pockets. It can also be used to moisturise dressings or absorbent materials prior to dressing.
Prontosan® wound gel can be left on the wound until the next dressing change. The required amount of gel is applied depending on the frequency of dressing changes. It is important to keep the wound surface moist at all times to ensure adequate cleansing and disinfection. Deposits are gently removed at each dressing change to optimally prepare the wound bed.
Prontosan® Wound Gel contains 1 mg surfactants (amphoteric) and 1 mg polihexanide as active ingredients. The other ingredients are water for injection, hyetellose and glycerol.
Wound gel for cleansing and moisturising
Chronic skin wounds are often covered with scabs, necrotic tissue and/or a biofilm. These coatings are difficult to remove and slow down the healing process. Proper wound cleansing is therefore extremely important.
Prontosan® Wound Gel enables long-term cleaning and decontamination of the wound between dressing changes.
Acute wounds are usually contaminated with debris and micro-organisms and therefore require thorough cleansing. These contaminants can interfere with the normal wound healing process and lead to complications such as infection. For acute traumatic wounds that require suturing, Prontosan® Wound Gel is applied after surgical treatment and suturing of the wound. Thanks to the unique combination of ingredients (polihexanide as an antimicrobial agent and betaine as a surfactant), Prontosan® wound irrigation solution is ideal for preventing the formation of a biofilm.
