OFTEN QUESTIONED
Why is SONNENTOR Manuka oil diluted with alcohol?
We have decided to dilute the manuka oil with alcohol for the following reasons:
If the oil is used as an ointment, it is mixed into an ointment base. Alcohol is more suitable for pure application, as it does not seal the wound and the alcohol provides further protection against bacteria.
Alcohol is also more suitable for frequent use in scented lamps and for gargling.
What is Manuka honey and what information is important about it?
Manuka honey - a very special flower nectar! The honey is made from the flower nectar of the South Sea myrtle (lat.: Leptospermum scoparium), a wild tea tree plant that only grows in New Zealand. The name Manuka was given to it by the Maori. Manuka is a hardy tree that thrives in the mountainous regions of New Zealand. The honey is only cold extracted and never exposed to temperatures above 39°C. Many valuable ingredients would be lost if the honey were heated.
How special is the manuka tree?
Manuka was a valuable and much-used plant, especially among the Maori. Manuka is rich in essential oils. Various parts of the plant were collected and used to prepare a decoction. This is how manuka got its colloquial name "tea tree".
Who makes our manuka honey
SONNENTOR's manuka honey comes from the bee colonies of our partner Bernhard Schneider from a nature reserve in New Zealand. Together with the Zwettler native, we protect and grow valuable manuka trees here, which supply the bee colonies with nectar. Bernhard Schneider is the only organic beekeeper in a 45,000-hectare area. In total, he has access to 732 hectares of land for honey production, 300 hectares of which are part of his reforestation programme. This project not only produces delicious honey - the planting and preservation of trees also offsets large amounts of CO2.
What is the difference to local honey? Manuka honey has a strong, spicy flavour with resinous nuances. Manuka honey is a very valuable honey. Similar to thyme honey or heather honey, Manuka honey is also a very strong type of honey. Our Manuka honey is characterised by a very high TA value.
