What is an EKG device?

With an EKG device, the placement of electrodes on the skin creates a so -called electrocardiogram (EKG for short). This electrocardiogram shows the electrical heart activity. The more electrodes are attached to the patient's body, the more precise the EKG generated by the device. In the most accurate electrocardiogram, the 12-channel ECG, ten electrodes (six on the chest, two on the arms and two on the legs) are attached to the patient. In emergencies or in mobile use, however, such an extensive EKG is not always possible. In this case, a 3-channel, 5-channel or 6-channel ECG is used. Less is recorded here, but the information is usually sufficient for an assessment of the emergency.

When is an EKG device used?

An EKG helps doctors to determine heart problems in an emergency or even during a preventive examination. The most common problems identified by an EKG are:

  • Heart rhythm disorders (e.g. atrial fibrillation and chamber tachycardia)
  • Inadequate blood flow to the coronary arteries (e.g. myocardiacalemia and myocardial infarction)
  • Electrolytic disorders (e.g. hypocalaemia and hyperkalaemia)
  • Overdose and poisoning with certain medication (e.g. neuroleptics)

Depending on the type of examination, different ECG devices are used. If the examination takes place in a doctor's office or in a hospital, an inpatient 12 channel ECG device is usually Cardiovite, Dräger or the healthcare) are used.

In emergencies, doctors are becoming increasingly important for so -called Mobile patient monitors Back, which, in addition to cardiac activity, can also measure the oxygen saturation, blood pressure and other parameters.

What types of EKG devices are there?

Mobile EKG devices: In order to be able to find the infarct area quickly in an emergency, a mobile EKG device is ideal. These devices fit into every emergency bag and are usually not equipped with a printer.

Inpatient EKG devices: These devices are designed for permanent use in a doctor's office, a hospital or a similar facility. Most of these devices have a built -in printer and the analysis is usually more precise than with mobile devices.

ECG devices integrated into patient monitors: In emergency medicine, the recording of vital parameters is very important. In addition to breathing, body temperature, oxygen saturation and blood pressure, many measure many Patient monitors also the heart activity.

Defibrillators with built-in ECG device: Some modern defibrillators like that Customs AED 3 or the Customs X Series can record cardiac activity. In an emergency, you can react even better as a doctor.

What do you have to pay attention to when buying an EKG device?

Would you like to use the device mobile or stationary?

We recommend a mobile patient monitor when used in emergency medicine. In addition to cardiac activity, you can also monitor other important parameters such as breathing or oxygen saturation. In stationary use, a larger and more powerful device with a built -in printer is recommended.

Would you like to measure other parameters in addition to cardiac activity?

If you only want to create EKGs, it is Cardiovit FT-1 (for mobile use) or the Mac 2000 (with inpatient use) ideal for you. These devices are ideal for adults and children due to a large frequency range and optimal signal quality.

Would you like to print out the results or is the electronic storage enough?

In the inpatient area, it is sometimes necessary to print out the EKG. For example, if you want to give it to a patient or pass it on to another station. In this case, you have to make sure that a printer is installed. In our shop you can use the Cardiovit AT-1 and the Mac 2000 Buy two EKG devices with printer.

Suitable accessories

Electrodes: In order for heart activity to be measured, electrodes must be attached to the patient's body. These electrodes must be high quality and change regularly.

EKG paper: If you want to print out the recorded ECG and give your patient with you, you need EKG paper. Important: This paper must be compatible with your EKG device.

Pint button adapter: If you want to convert your ECG device from suction to adhesive electrodes, then you need a push button adapter.

Electrode contact spray: For better management of the electrical signal for suction electrodes, we recommend Electrode contact spray.

Emergency bag or. Emergency backpack: If you always want your mobile EKG device in an emergency, we recommend one Emergency bag or one Emergency backpack. You can either order this equipment empty or filled by us.

The discovery of what would be considered a medical device according to modern standards goes to approx. 7000 BC. BC in Belutschistan, where neolithic dentists used stone drills and arches. The study of archeology and Roman medical literature also indicates that many types of medical devices were widespread during the ancient Rome period. In the United States, medical devices were only regulated with the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD & C Act) in 1938. Later in 1976, the changes to medical devices to the FD & C Act led the Medical Device Ordinance
and supervision as we know them in the United States today. In 1993, as we know it today, the Medical Device Ordinance in Europe came into force through the so-called Medical Device Directive (MDD). On May 26, 2017, the MDD was replaced by the Medical Device Ordinance (MDR).
