How to use?

Take the medicine with liquid (e.g. 1 glass of water). You can crush the medicine to make it easier to take.

Duration of use?

You should not use the medicine for longer than 3-4 days without medical advice. If symptoms persist for longer, you should consult your doctor.

Overdose?

No overdose symptoms are known. If in doubt, consult your doctor.
As a general rule: Pay particular attention to a conscientious dosage for infants, small children and older people. If in doubt, ask your doctor or pharmacist about any effects or precautionary measures.
A dosage prescribed by a doctor may differ from the information in the package leaflet. As the doctor will personalise it, you should therefore use the medicine according to his instructions.

Breastfeeding: Consult your doctor or pharmacist. They will check your particular situation and advise you accordingly as to whether and how you can continue breastfeeding.
If you have been prescribed the medicine despite a contraindication, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. The therapeutic benefit may be greater than the risk associated with the use of a contraindication.

What adverse effects can occur?

Allergic reactions
If you notice any discomfort or change during treatment, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
The information provided here primarily covers side effects that occur in at least one in 1,000 patients treated.

What should you be aware of?

There may be medicines with which interactions occur. You should therefore always tell your doctor or pharmacist about any other medicine you are already taking before starting treatment with a new medicine. This also applies to medicines that you buy yourself, use only occasionally or have been using for some time.

How do the ingredients of the medicine work?

The medicine consists of a combination of active ingredients. The active ingredient ethacridine normalises the increased movement of the bowel through its antispasmodic effect. It also has an antibacterial effect and reduces the permeability of the intestinal wall to fluids. This can counteract diarrhoea. The active ingredient tannin gradually breaks down in the digestive tract. According to the manufacturer, the decomposition products cause the hair vessels, i.e. the finest branches of the blood vessels, in the mucous membrane to contract, making it more difficult for harmful substances to be absorbed into the stomach and intestinal mucous membrane. This also prevents the absorption of diarrhoea-causing substances. The astringent properties of the active ingredient normalise irritated intestinal mucosa.

Application

  • Diarrhoea, in acute cases
  • Prevention of traveller's diarrhoea

Consult your doctor if additional symptoms such as fever and/or bloody stools occur.
