Product details & mandatory information

Rhinospray plus for colds in detail

The total dose should not be exceeded without consulting a doctor or pharmacist.

Type of application?

Spray the medicine into the/each nostril. Breathe gently through your nose while spraying. Clean your nose beforehand by blowing vigorously. Before the first application, you should pump several times until a spray mist is formed. To avoid infections, the medicine should only be used by one patient at a time.

Duration of use?

The medicine should not be used for longer than 5-7 days. Reapplication should only take place after a break of several days. You should always ask your doctor about the duration of use in children.

Overdose?

If the medicine is used as described, no overdose symptoms are known. If large quantities are accidentally swallowed, consult a doctor immediately.

Forgetting to take the medicine?

Continue taking the medicine as normal (i.e. not with twice the prescribed amount) at the next prescribed time.
In general: Pay particular attention to conscientious dosing in infants, small children and the elderly. If in doubt, ask your doctor or pharmacist about any effects or precautions.
A dosage prescribed by a doctor may differ from the information on the package leaflet. As the doctor will adjust it individually, you should therefore use the medicine according to his instructions.

Storage

The medicine may be used for a maximum of 12 months after opening/preparation!
The medicine must be stored at room temperature after opening/preparation!

What speaks against use?

Always:
- Hypersensitivity to the ingredients
- Increased intraocular pressure (glaucoma), such as narrow-angle glaucoma
- Condition following brain surgery
- Drying of the nasal mucosa with bark formation (rhinitis sicca)
Under certain circumstances - talk to your doctor or pharmacist about this:
- Cardiovascular diseases, such as:
- Coronary heart disease (circulatory disorders of the heart muscle)
- High blood pressure
- Pheochromocytoma (adrenaline-producing tumour)
- Enlarged prostate
- Metabolic diseases, such as:
- Hyperthyroidism
- Diabetes mellitus (diabetes)
- Porphyria
What age group should I consider?
- Children under 6 years of age: The medicine should generally not be used in this group. There are preparations that are more suitable in terms of active ingredient strength and/or dosage form.
What about pregnancy and breastfeeding?
- Pregnancy: Consult your doctor. Various considerations play a role in whether and how the medicine can be used during pregnancy.
- Lactation: Consult your doctor or pharmacist. They will check your particular situation and advise you accordingly on whether and how you can continue breastfeeding.
If you have been prescribed the medicine despite a contraindication, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. The therapeutic benefit may be greater than the risk associated with use in the case of a contraindication.

What adverse effects can occur?

- Irritation symptoms in the nose, such as:
- Burning of the mucous membranes
- Sneezing
- Drying of the nasal mucosa with bark formation (rhinitis sicca)
- Reactively increased blood circulation, especially of the mucous membranes, resulting in:
- Feeling of a "blocked nose"
- Nausea
- Headache
- Palpitations
If you notice any discomfort or change during treatment, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
The information provided here is based primarily on side effects that occur in at least one in 1,000 treated patients.

What should you be aware of?

- The medicine itself may cause a feeling of nasal congestion. If you try to eliminate this feeling with the help of this product, you run the risk of permanently damaging the nasal mucosa. The effect can occur after just 5-7 days of use.
- Menthol/Camphor/Cineol: Do not use on or in the immediate vicinity of the respiratory organs in children under 2 years of age; risk of laryngeal spasm. Hypersensitivity reactions (including respiratory distress) may be triggered in sensitised patients.
- Preservatives (e.g. benzalkonium chloride) may cause swelling of the nasal mucosa with prolonged use. If such a reaction is suspected (persistent nasal congestion), a medicine for use in the nose without a preservative should be used.
- There may be medicines with which interactions occur. You should therefore generally inform your doctor or pharmacist of any other medicine you are already using before starting treatment with a new medicine. This also applies to medicines that you buy yourself, use only occasionally or have been using for some time.

How does the active ingredient of the medicine work?

The active ingredient contracts the dilated veins in the mucous membrane of the nose and eyeball. This reduces the excessive blood flow to the olfactory and visual organs and swells the mucous membrane. Patients can breathe more freely through their nose again. In addition, it no longer runs constantly. Annoying redness and non-specific irritation in the eyes disappear.
