Vitamin B12 Lichtenstein in detail
Vitamin B12 Lichtenstein is a preparation for the treatment of vitamin B12 deficiencies that cannot be corrected by diet. It contains the active ingredient cyanocobalamin, which belongs to the group of vitamin B12 compounds.
Product details:
- Active substance: 1 mg cyanocobalamin
- Excipients: Water for injection, sodium hydroxide for pH adjustment, sodium chloride, sodium dihydrogen phosphate-2-water
Indications:
- Treatment of vitamin B12 deficiency that cannot be corrected by diet.
- Indications include megaloblastic anaemia, funicular spinal disease and laboratory-confirmed vitamin B12 deficiency due to malnutrition, malabsorption, diseases of the ileum, fish tapeworm infestation, blind loop syndrome and congenital vitamin B12 transport disorders.
Dosage:
- Initial treatment: 1 ml (1 ampoule) once or twice a week for the first two weeks.
- Maintenance therapy: 100 µg cyanocobalamin once a month in cases of proven malabsorption.
- The drug is administered intramuscularly, intravenously or subcutaneously.
Side effects:
- Very rare: Skin reactions (acne, eczema, urticaria) and hypersensitivity reactions (anaphylactic reactions).
- If side effects occur, inform a doctor, pharmacist or healthcare professional.
Interactions and contraindications:
- No known interactions with other medicinal products.
- Do not use in case of hypersensitivity to cyanocobalamin or any of the other ingredients.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding:
- Recommended daily vitamin B12 intake during pregnancy and breastfeeding is 4 µg.
- Experience to date has shown that higher doses have no adverse effects on the unborn child.
- Vitamin B12 passes into breast milk.
Advice:
- No special precautions required.
- The success of treatment may be jeopardised if treatment is interrupted.
