Weinmann 2-stage safety valve for COMBIBAG resuscitator | item 13 in detail
The Weinmann 2-stage safety valve for the COMBIBAG resuscitator (item 13) is the first manual ventilator with a 2-stage safety valve. This valve solves a problem that previously occurred with ventilation via mask and tracheal tube: the lack of pressure limitation.
Most manual ventilators only have a pressure limitation of 50-60 mbar, which is based on the conditions of a healthy lung. However, this harbours some dangers. Inexperienced users tend to increase the pressure to over 20 mbar when excited and wanting to ventilate effectively. This can cause the stomach to become distended and lead to regurgitation with subsequent aspiration. When ventilating children, there is also a risk of damage to the lungs due to excessive ventilation pressures. With the COMBIBAG's 2-stage safety valve, the following pressure limits can now be set: 20 mbar for mask ventilation and paediatric ventilation and 60 mbar for adult ventilation via a tracheal tube.
