Product description

Aqualizer® hydrostatic splint in detail

CMD (cranio-mandibular dysfunction) is a term that initially confuses many people. This technical term refers to a malfunction in the interaction between the temporomandibular joint and muscles. Patients often suffer from headaches, TMJ pain, neck tension, earache and a range of other symptoms. A frequently recommended therapy is the use of a bite splint. But not every splint is the same. Here we would like to focus on a special type of bite splint: the CMD Aqualizer.

What is an Aqualizer?

The Aqualizer is an innovative bite splint based on the principle of water cushioning. Instead of a solid material that holds the bite in a fixed position, the Aqualizer uses water cushions that allow flexible and individual adjustment. These water cushions relieve the jaw muscles as they provide the teeth with a "floating" support and thus minimise unwanted or disruptive tooth contact.

Why choose the Aqualizer bite splint?

Flexibility: In contrast to traditional bite splints, which are often hard and inflexible, the Aqualizer offers a soft, adaptable solution that adapts to the patient's individual bite.
Quick relief: Many patients report that they feel a noticeable relaxation of the muscles after just a short period of wear.
Detection of bite problems: The flexible nature of the Aqualizer makes it easier for patients and dentists to identify bite problems, as changes in the contact pattern can be detected more easily.

Aqualizer® model selection:

Aqualizer® Ultra:
The Ultra is used for average-sized adult mouths. Our best seller.
Low volume ≈ 11 mm thick, medium volume ≈ 2 mm thick, high volume ≈ 3 mm thick.
Aqualizer® Slim:
This slimmer shape adapts well to the dental arch and has less lingual contact and is suitable for more sensitive patients. The Slim Aqualiser® is used for average-sized mouths.
Low volume ≈ 1 mm thick, medium volume ≈ 2 mm thick, high volume ≈ 3 mm thick.
Aqualizer® Mini:
The Aqualizer® Mini is a smaller ultra design with smaller pads and a shorter arch length. Suitable for teenagers and small mouths.
Low volume ≈ 75 mm thick, medium volume ≈ 1.5 mm thick, High volume ≈ 2 mm thick.

Applicable for these (CMD) symptoms:

  • Muscle pain
  • Headaches
  • Hardened muscles
  • Jaw joint pain
  • Pressing or grinding with the teeth
  • Shoulder and back pain
  • Swallowing difficulties

    The principle of action:

The principle behind the Aqualizer is based on ingenious simplicity: it relieves the jaw muscles of the potentially tiring task of continuously positioning the jaw in such a way that unwanted or disruptive tooth contact is avoided. This is achieved by flexibly supporting the teeth on water cushions rather than interlocking them precisely.

The muscles quickly recognise the reduced strain and begin to relax. This can lead to completely new, comfortable lower jaw positions that are far more pleasant for the patient than the previous bite. Discomfort is effectively alleviated - you could say that the pain actually "floats away".

    Correct insertion of the Aqualizer:

To position the Aqualizer correctly, hold it so that the water cushions are facing each other. Then insert it into the mouth with the connecting tube running externally around the upper teeth. The water pads should be placed evenly between the posterior teeth to ensure a symmetrical bite.

Your cheeks now support the Aqualizer and prevent it from sliding out between the teeth.

NOTE: The Aqualizer is not designed for sporting activities! Excessive pressure can cause it to burst. It is not advisable to constantly bite on the Aqualizer as the main intention is to relieve the muscles. The main aim is to relieve the jaw so that there is no obstructive contact of the teeth when closing - as when swallowing.

    How to use

In order to experience the full benefits of the Aqualizer, it is important to use it correctly. The water pads should be placed evenly between the posterior teeth to ensure a symmetrical bite. In addition, the Aqualizer should not be used as a sports device or for chewing hard foods, as excessive pressure could damage it.

    Summary

The CMD Aqualizer bite splint is a revolutionary solution for anyone suffering from CMD. It offers an effective and comfortable alternative to traditional splints. If you think the Aqualizer might be right for you, talk to your dentist or orthodontist about the possibility of trying it out. A pain-free life could be just one Aqualiser away!

    - Brief overview of the Aqualizer occlusal splint

The Aqualizer occlusal splint is a specially developed dental splint designed to relieve the bite and relax the muscles in the jaw. It is used in cases of craniomandibular dysfunction (CMD), which causes tension, pain and restrictions in the jaw muscles. The Aqualizer splint offers immediate relief by temporarily adjusting the bite thanks to its hydrostatic properties, thus providing relief and relaxation.

The advantages of the Aqualizer splint lie in its ease of use and immediate effect. It is particularly suitable for immediate relief of acute CMD symptoms and can also be used for diagnostics and therapy support. The splint is available in different sizes and can be customised.

The lifespan of the Aqualizer splint depends on individual use and can be several months. For maintenance, the splint should only be cleaned with mild soapy water and stored in a dry place to ensure a long shelf life.

    - The importance of correct bite alignment for general health

Improper bite alignment can have serious consequences for general health. An unfavourable tooth position can cause various health problems, such as temporomandibular joint problems, head and neck pain, tension in the facial and chewing muscles, tinnitus and even back problems. A correct bite is of great importance as it not only affects chewing and speaking, but also the health of the entire body. A good bite ensures harmonious interaction between the teeth and jaw, which in turn reduces the strain on the muscles and jaw joints. In addition, a correct bite can reduce tooth wear and minimise the risk of dental and jaw problems. A healthy bite is therefore essential for general health and can have a positive effect on overall quality of life. It is therefore important to have regular check-ups at the dentist to check the bite position and take corrective measures if necessary.

What is an Aqualizer occlusal splint?

This small but effective aid is often used to treat TMJ problems and muscle pain in the jaw area. The Aqualizer bite splint is a type of protective splint made of a flexible, water-filled plastic material. It is placed between the teeth to provide temporary relief for the jaw and jaw muscles. The Aqualizer splint was originally developed to help dentists and orthodontists identify ideal bite positions. Today it is also used to relieve tension and pain in the jaw area. The Aqualizer splint allows the jaw to move into a more relaxed position, which can help to alleviate conditions such as headaches, TMJ pain and muscular tension.

    - Explaining how the Aqualizer Bite Splint works

The Aqualizer Bite Splint works on the basis of a system of water-filled bite pads that balance the chewing forces in the mouth. The splint adapts to the individual contours of the jaw and thus enables an even distribution of the bite. The water-filled cushions ensure that the muscles are relaxed and the jaw joints are relieved, which in turn relieves pain in the jaw and head area.

The Aqualizer is available in different sizes to meet the individual needs of patients. The care instructions for the Aqualizer are simple: the splint should be thoroughly cleaned with water after each use and then air-dried to ensure hygienic use.

Overall, the Aqualizer provides an effective way to balance masticatory forces, relax muscles and relieve pain by utilising the water-filled bite pad system.

    - How it helps with mid-bite height adjustment

When it comes to mid-bite height adjustment, it's important to find the right height for the bite. The centre bite height helps to achieve the optimum positioning of the bite in the mouth to ensure an even distribution of pressure on the teeth. By adjusting the mid-bite height, orthodontists and dentists can ensure that the patient's bite is properly aligned and avoid potential problems such as uneven tooth wear, TMJ problems and jaw misalignment. It is important to personalise this adjustment as each patient has different requirements and needs. The mid-bite height plays a crucial role in supporting good oral health and can help maintain the long-term functionality and aesthetics of the mouth.

    - Description of the design and materials used for the splint

The RehaSplint is made of durable plastic material that provides a secure and customised fit. The design of the splint is ergonomically designed to ensure optimal support and stability. It is lightweight and unobtrusive, allowing the wearer more comfort and mobility during the rehabilitation process. The splint is made of high-quality materials that ensure durability and resistance.

Compared to other splints, the RehaSplint has adjustable fasteners and straps to ensure a customised fit for each patient. In addition, the splint offers good ventilation to ensure optimal air circulation and minimise skin irritation. The design is also slim and slender, which allows the splint to be worn under clothing without being obvious. These features make the RehaSplint a preferred choice for patients who need effective and comfortable support during rehabilitation.

    - How the splint is customised to each individual's needs

The Aqualizer splint is individually adapted to each patient's needs, based on the anatomical features of the jaw. By selecting the correct filling quantity and bite height, the splint can be optimally adjusted to ensure a perfect fit and optimum comfort.

The bite height of the Aqualizer can be reduced during wear to meet the patient's individual requirements. The filling quantity varies depending on the needs of the individual patient, although a moderate filling quantity is usually sufficient to achieve the desired effect.

In addition to the Aqualizer, various items can be ordered to support the individual needs of patients. These include, for example, different sizes of splint, cleaning tablets and brushes as well as storage containers.

Thanks to the individualised adaptation to the anatomical conditions and the selection of the correct filling quantity and bite height, the Aqualizer offers a tailor-made solution for the individual needs of each patient.

Advantages of an Aqualizer bite splint

If you have problems with your bite or suffer from tension in your jaw, an Aqualizer bite splint could be the solution for you. This special bite splint offers a variety of benefits that can help you alleviate your discomfort and improve your quality of life. Find out more about the benefits of an Aqualizer occlusal splint:

    1. Rapid relief: The Aqualizer occlusal splint works immediately to relieve the jaw and release tension.

    2. Adaptability: The splint automatically adjusts to your individual bite position, making it comfortable and effective.

    3. Stimulation of blood circulation: By adjusting the jaw, blood circulation is stimulated in the entire facial area, which can lead to improved blood circulation and relief of discomfort.

    4. Protection of the teeth: The Aqualizer bite splint protects your teeth from excessive pressure and wear that can be caused by uneven clenching of the teeth.

These benefits make the Aqualizer bite splint an attractive option for people who suffer from jaw discomfort. If you are interested, talk to your dentist about the possibility of getting an Aqualizer occlusal splint.

    Pain relief

The Aqualizer splint is an innovative pain relief aid for cranio-mandibular dysfunction (CMD). By using the Aqualizer splint, the bite is stabilised and the strain on the temporomandibular joints is reduced, resulting in rapid pain relief for CMD symptoms. The advantages of the immediate relief splint are its immediate effect and ease of use. The Aqualizer splint can also help to relieve muscle pain in the jaw area and relax the jaw muscles.

However, there are also possible side effects when using the Aqualizer splint, such as temporary sensitivity to pressure in the teeth or temporary changes in the bite. Contraindications to the use of the Aqualizer splint may include severe dental problems or advanced TMJ arthritis.

In addition to the use of the Aqualizer splint, alternative therapies such as physiotherapy, acupuncture or massage therapy can help to further relieve the pain of CMD symptoms. A multidisciplinary approach that combines the Aqualizer splint with other treatment methods can maximise the effectiveness of pain relief and improvement of TMJ function.

    - How the splint helps to relieve pain associated with dental problems

The splint is an important part of the treatment of tooth-related pain caused by problems such as night-time clenching and grinding (bruxism). The splint helps to reduce the strain on the teeth and relieve tense muscles, resulting in pain relief. Due to its fit, the splint enables a relaxed jaw joint and reduces overloading of the teeth and muscles, which reduces the symptoms of craniomandibular dysfunction (CMD).

The Aqualizer is a special type of splint that is filled with water to meet the individual needs of the patient. The correct amount of water is selected by the patient placing the splint in their mouth and adjusting the water so that there is even pressure on the teeth. Symptoms such as headaches, toothache or sensitive teeth may indicate night-time clenching or grinding. Parafunctional disorders such as teeth grinding are typical signs of CMD and can lead to serious problems in the long term.

For self-help with CMD, relaxation exercises, stress management and avoiding hard and sticky foods can be recommended to reduce the strain on the temporomandibular joint. Regular massage of the jaw muscles and physiotherapy can also help to alleviate the symptoms.

    - Importance of medical supervision when using the splint

Medical supervision when using a splint is crucial to ensure that it is fitted and applied correctly. The splint is often used to support and stabilise injured joints or bones and expert medical supervision is essential to avoid potential complications. Not only does the fitting of the splint to the individual patient require medical expertise, but also the regular monitoring of the healing process and the adjustment of the splint according to progress. Medical supervision not only ensures that the splint is used correctly, but also gives the doctor the opportunity to recognise and treat any problems at an early stage. Close collaboration between patient and doctor is therefore essential to ensure optimal recovery and avoid complications.

    Correcting jaw dysfunction

There are various methods of correcting jaw dysfunction, including orthodontics, physical therapy and surgery. Orthodontic treatments such as braces and orthodontic appliances can help to bring teeth and jaws into the correct position and thus correct functional disorders. Physical therapy can be used for TMJ problems and muscle tension to improve jaw function. In severe cases, surgery may be necessary to correct structural problems in the jaw.

The risks and benefits of each method depend on the patient's individual situation. Orthodontics may be effective for children and adolescents with jaw development problems, while physical therapy and surgery should be considered more for adult patients with more advanced dysfunction. Alternative approaches that may be considered include osteopathic treatments, acupuncture and holistic therapies.

Overall, there are several treatment options for correcting dysfunction in the jaw, and choosing the right method depends on the patient's individual situation.

    - Explanation of how the Aqualizer Bite Splint helps compensate for jaw dysfunction

The Aqualizer Bite Splint is a temporary solution for compensating for jaw dysfunction. The splint works by realigning the patient's bite and reducing the strain on the temporomandibular joints. Due to the pressure of the water in the chambers of the splint, it adapts individually to the jaw structure and enables improved joint function.

The Aqualizer bite splint helps to temporarily relieve muscular tension and pain in the jaw and head area while bridging the time until splint therapy is initiated. It allows the patient to relax the jaw muscles and relieve pressure on the temporomandibular joints.

It is important to note that the Aqualizer occlusal splint is only intended as a temporary solution and is not a permanent treatment. It is only intended to provide temporary relief until a customised DROS® splint can be made and used to treat the jaw dysfunction in the long term.

The Aqualizer Low is used to make bite registers and jaw impressions. It helps to ensure a correct bite height and supports the relaxation of the masticatory muscles during the impression process. By using the Aqualizer Low, dentists and dental technicians can make precise adjustments to the bite, which leads to better treatment results.

Overall, the Aqualizer Low with 1 mm bite height is a valuable application for relaxing the masticatory muscles and correcting the bite height. It is particularly suitable for patients with specific mouth and jaw problems and contributes to more accurate and comfortable treatments.

    The hydrostatic principle

The hydrostatic principle refers to the properties of liquids to distribute themselves evenly due to their weight. This principle is applied in dentistry with the AQUALIZER™, a temporary occlusal splint that is used to balance the upper and lower jaw and relax the masticatory muscles.

The hydrostatic principle means that the AQUALIZER™ automatically adapts to the patient's individual jaw shape and chewing pressure. This helps to relieve pressure on the temporomandibular joints and relax the masticatory muscles. The AQUALIZER™ can bring about a significant improvement in patients with CMD syndrome (craniomandibular dysfunction) who suffer from symptoms such as jaw pain, headaches, teeth grinding, tinnitus and neck pain.

By using the AQUALIZER™ and the hydrostatic principle, a natural and gentle balancing of the jaw is achieved, which helps to alleviate the symptoms of CMD syndrome and other jaw problems.

    The CMD syndrome

Hey, have you ever heard of CMD syndrome? It stands for craniomandibular dysfunction and refers to a functional disorder in the temporomandibular joint and chewing apparatus. CMD syndrome can be caused by various factors such as teeth grinding, incorrect posture, stress or even misaligned teeth. The symptoms range from head and neck pain and tension in the jaw area to earache and dizziness. In this section, we will take a closer look at the causes, symptoms and treatment options for CMD syndrome. Let's take a look!

How to choose the right Aqualizer

There are some important criteria to consider when choosing the right Aqualizer model. The Aqualizer Slim, Aqualizer Ultra and Aqualizer Mini models differ in size and adaptability, which affects their comfort and fit.

The Aqualizer Slim is particularly suitable for patients with a smaller oral cavity or for a specific therapeutic application, while the Aqualizer Ultra is suitable for patients with a larger oral cavity. The Aqualizer Mini is very flexible and is well suited for children or patients with a very sensitive palate.

Choosing the right Aqualizer can lead to improved fit and comfort, as the model is optimally adapted to the patient's individual needs and requirements. A well-fitting aqualiser will not only improve the success of therapy, but also increase the patient's well-being during use. When choosing the right aqualiser, it is important to consider the patient's individual needs and the adaptability of the model to ensure optimal treatment.

How do I decide on the right water filling quantity?

To choose the right water filling quantity for the aqualiser, the patient's anatomical conditions and bite height should be considered first. The bite height can be adjusted by using three different water filling volumes: low, medium and high. The selection of the correct water filling quantity depends on factors such as jaw anatomy, tooth position and individual wearing comfort.

The low water filling quantity corresponds to a bite height of 2-3 mm, the medium of 3-4 mm and the high of 5-6 mm. It is important to adjust the bite height accordingly to ensure optimal support and alignment of the jaw.

During wear, the bite height may tend to decrease as the Aqualizer begins to adapt to the individual jaw position. As a rule, around 90% of patients prefer the medium water fill level to ensure balanced wearing comfort and optimum support. However, it is important that the dentist or orthodontist determines the correct water fill level based on the patient's individual needs.

How can I tell if I am clenching or grinding my teeth at night?

Typical symptoms of clenching or grinding at night include abrasion of tooth enamel, lesions in the enamel and bites on the tongue and cheeks. These symptoms indicate that strong forces are exerted on the teeth during sleep, which can lead to damage to the enamel and injuries in the oral cavity.

Sleep disorders, headaches, neck pain and tension in the jaw area can also be signs of a parafunctional disorder. This disorder is often associated with stress and tension and can lead to serious problems in the jaw joint and teeth if left untreated.

It is important to see a dentist if you experience these symptoms to get an accurate diagnosis and discuss appropriate treatment options. Regular dental check-ups can help to detect night-time clenching or grinding at an early stage and prevent consequential damage.

How do the Aqualizer & RehaSplint differ?

The Aqualizer and the RehaSplint differ in their underlying systems and the various models. The Aqualizer is based on the hydrostatic effect and has different models for different bite openings and depths, while the RehaSplint is based on a flexible plastic system and is also available in different models that offer different customisation options.

The Aqualizer is made of a thermoplastic material that adapts to the individual bite shape when heated. It can be filled with water and enables easy customisation. The RehaSplint is made of a flexible plastic that is equipped with an individually adjustable locking mechanism and therefore allows precise adjustment.

When deciding on the right Aqualizer or RehaSplint, features such as the individual bite opening, depth setting, adjustment options and comfort should be taken into account.

In summary, the Aqualizer and RehaSplint offer different materials, properties and adjustment options that should be considered when choosing the right splint for individual needs.
