What is a scalpel?

Skalpelle are used in surgery to cut through tissues. They have extremely sharp sounds that are only used once. Then either the whole scalpel (disposable or orOne-off scaling) disposed of or just thatblade exchanged.

Where are the scalpella used?

  • surgery
  • dermatology
  • Veterinary medicine
  • Foot orthopedics
  • Scientific laboratories

What types of scalpellae are there?

Scalpel with interchangeable blade:

This scalpel consists of a scalpel holder or handle and an interchangeable blade. Each blade is only used once in medicine, then it is disposed of.

Grip: The various scalpel handles cannot be recognized by a special name, but on the basis of their number. Standard handles are number three, four and seven. Depending on the handle, you need different blades. The same sounds are usually suitable for the handles #3 and #7. When buying the blades, note the product description.

Types of blades:
In the blades, a distinction is made between shape, size and material. Which blade is the right one depends on the part of the body and the tissue to which it is to be used.

Material: Stainless steel, titanium, ceramics, flint and obsidian are particularly suitable as material.

Size: Smaller blades usually have a slim, elongated shape and are suitable for the handles #3 and #7. Larger blades are suitable for grip #4.

Shape: The shape of the blades can be curved, straight or sickel -shaped, with a pointed or rather blunt angle.

Disposable calpel:

Disposable calfs usually have a plastic handle with a pull -out blade (similar to a carpet knife or Stanleyesser). After a one -time use, the entire instrument is disposed of.

Special scalpelle:

Lanzetten: Two -edged scalpels are referred to as "Lanzetten".

Biopsies dancing: For diagnostic purposes, a tubular piece of skin with a little tissue can be removed with the biopsy dance.

Skin cuet: To remove warts, basal cell carcinomas and benign neoplasms on the skin.

What do you have to pay attention to when buying scalpellae?

Note the advantages and disadvantages of disposable and reusable scales:
Do you have the necessary equipment to sterilize the scalpel handles? Then reusable scale could be useful. Especially if you need the instrument very often, you benefit from the cheaper price of the blades. They also produce less garbage. However, if you only use the scalpel sporadically, one -off calf pelle are ideal for you. These do not have to be sterilized and always come "fresh" from the package.

When buying blades or handles, pay attention to the right size: For this, read in the product description of the blades for which handles they are suitable for.

Create a sufficiently large supply of blades or scalpellae: The blade or the scalpel must be changed constantly. You should only make one cut per blade. This is the only way to prevent permanent scars as possible. Therefore, make sure that you always have enough scalpel or sound.

Do not use steel blades in combination with MRI: If you carry out an operation with MRI support, you should not use steel blades. The blades could be put on by the magnets or cause image artifacts. In this case, blades made of titanium, ceramics, flint or obsidian are better suited for you.
