Folsan® 5 mg tablets: For the treatment of folic acid deficiency states
Indications:
- Treatment of folic acid deficiencies that cannot be corrected by diet.
- Prevention of neural tube defects in newborns in women at increased risk.
- Treatment of elevated homocysteine levels in the blood due to folic acid deficiency.
Dosage:
- For the treatment of folic acid deficiency: 1 to 3 tablets daily.
- For the prevention of neural tube defects: 1 tablet daily for women who wish to have children or during pregnancy.
- The duration of use is determined by the doctor depending on the folic acid deficiency and clinical picture.
Side effects:
- Rarely: Gastrointestinal disorders and sleep disturbances at very high doses.
- Very rare: Hypersensitivity reactions such as reddening of the skin, itching or circulatory collapse.
Interactions:
- May increase susceptibility to convulsions with anticonvulsants.
- High doses may interact with folic acid antagonists such as methotrexate.
