L-Arginine is a non-essential amino acid that the body can produce itself. However, the amount is not always sufficient in certain situations, so an additional supply via food or dietary supplements is necessary. For this reason, it is often referred to as a partially essential amino acid.
Arginine is a main component of our connective tissue, such as collagen, and a component of muscle proteins. This amino acid is also involved in the body's own production of creatine. Creatine in turn supports the energy supply to the muscles and oxygen uptake in the brain. L-arginine has the highest nitrogen mass content of all proteinogenic amino acids and is involved in the body's own production of nitric oxide.
