Sonnentor The Strong Manuka Honey in detail

Strong! Even the Maori, the indigenous people of New Zealand, knew about the extraordinary properties of the manuka shrub. The honey is made from the South Sea myrtle, the manuka tree. It has a strong, spicy flavour, an intensely resinous aroma and a delicate caramel brown colour. With a slightly minty finish, it enchants all the senses. Tip from our beekeeper: Manuka honey is best taken on an empty stomach, pure or dissolved in lukewarm water or milk. Never mix with hot liquid. TA factor (Total Activity): 25+

OFTEN ASKED

What is manuka honey and what information about it is important

Manuka honey - a very special flower nectar! The honey is made from the flower nectar of the South Sea myrtle (lat.: Leptospermum scoparium), a wild tea tree plant that only grows in New Zealand. The name Manuka was given to it by the Maori. Manuka is a hardy tree that thrives in the mountainous regions of New Zealand. The honey is only cold extracted and never exposed to temperatures above 39°C. Many valuable ingredients would be lost if the honey were heated.

How special is the manuka tree?

Manuka was a valuable and much-used plant, especially among the Maori. Manuka is rich in essential oils. Various parts of the plant were collected and used to prepare a decoction. This is how manuka got its colloquial name "tea tree".

Who makes our manuka honey?

SONNENTOR's manuka honey comes from the bee colonies of our partner Bernhard Schneider from a nature reserve in New Zealand. Together with the Zwettler native, we protect and grow valuable manuka trees here, which supply the bee colonies with nectar. Bernhard Schneider is the only organic beekeeper in a 45,000-hectare area. In total, he has access to 732 hectares of land for honey production, 300 hectares of which are part of his reforestation programme. This project not only produces delicious honey - the planting and preservation of trees also offsets large amounts of CO2.

What is the difference to local honey?

Manuka honey has a strong, spicy flavour with resinous nuances. Manuka honey is a very valuable honey. Similar to thyme honey or heather honey, Manuka honey is also a very strong type of honey. Our Manuka honey is characterised by a very high TA value.

What is the TA factor?

The TA factor ("Total Acitvity") is a value that is used as a quality index for honey. Manuka honey from SONNENTOR has an activity factor of 25+. The TA value indicates the peroxide activity.

This is based on the combination of the peroxide activity and the non-peroxide activity. The peroxide activity describes the activity
