This also applies to medicines that you buy yourself, use only occasionally or have been using for some time.
How does the ingredient of the medicine work?

The ingredients come from the senna plant and act as a natural mixture. There are two different types of senna, Alexandrine and Tinnevelly senna. About the plants themselves:
- Appearance: Semi-shrubs with airy leaflets and small yellow flower clusters that develop into elongated oval pods
- Occurrence: Tropics and subtropics, often from plantations in India or Malaysia
- Main ingredients: Anthranoids
- Plant parts and preparations used: Extracts and powders from the fruits and leaves
Both senna leaves and the fruits are laxatives. They stimulate the movements of the large intestine and inhibit the recovery of water and salts from the intestine, so that the increase in volume stretches the intestinal wall more and emptying can occur earlier and more easily.

Application

- Constipation, for short-term useThe medicine should only be used if the constipation cannot be remedied by a change in diet or swelling preparations.

Dosage

0.4-1.6 g (1/4 - 1 teaspoon)once a dayChildren aged 10 years and over and adults in the evening, after a mealThe correct dosage is the one that is just sufficient to obtain a softly formed stool. The laxative effect normally occurs after 8 to 12 hours.
