The AEROvent® heat and moisture exchanger (HME) is used for spontaneously breathing patients with a tracheostoma. It effectively protects the airways from the negative effects of cold, dry respiratory gases. It also filters particles and warms or humidifies the air we breathe. Another effect of the HME is the restoration of breathing resistance.
