Iodide 200 micrograms in detail
Iodide 200 micrograms is an iodine-containing medicine to support thyroid function. It contains 0.26 mg potassium iodide and is used for the prevention and treatment of iodine deficiency and goitre formation.
Active ingredients:
- 0.26 mg potassium iodide
Excipients:
- Magnesium stearate
- Highly dispersed silicon dioxide
- Cellulose powder
- Microcrystalline cellulose
- Maize starch
- 84 mg lactose-1-water
Indication:
- Iodide supports the formation of thyroid hormones and normal thyroid function.
- Used for the prevention and treatment of iodine deficiency goitre in newborns, children, adolescents and adults.
Dosage and use:
- Prevention of iodine deficiency goitre:
- Infants and children: 50 - 100 micrograms iodide/day
- Adolescents and adults: 100 - 200 micrograms of iodide/day
- Pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers: 100 - 200 micrograms of iodide/day
- Prevention of new goitre growth after goitre treatment: 100 - 200 micrograms of iodide/day
- Treatment of iodine deficiency goitre:
- Newborns and children: 100 - 200 micrograms iodide/day
- Adolescents: 200 micrograms of iodide/day
Duration of treatment:
- To prevent goitre growth, usually lifelong intake.
- Treatment of goitre in newborns: 2 - 4 weeks.
- Treatment of goitre in children, adolescents and adults: 6 - 12 months or longer.
Important information:
- Do not use without consulting your doctor, especially if you plan to take it because of the situation in Ukraine.
- The German Medicines Commission advises against preventive use of iodine. In the event of an emergency, the emergency services will take care of it.
Side effects:
- Occasional: Burning or stinging of the skin, itching.
- Rarely: Redness, allergic skin reactions (contact dermatitis).
- Very rare: Hypersensitivity reactions such as angioedema and hives.
Interactions:
- Inform your doctor about all medicines you are taking.
- Caution when taking thyreostatics, perchlorate, thiocyanate, lithium and hormones (thyrotropin, TSH).
Contraindications:
- Do not take in case of overproduction of thyroid hormones or certain nodules in the thyroid gland.
- Do not use if allergic to iodide or other ingredients.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding:
- Continue treatment with iodide during pregnancy and breastfeeding after consulting a doctor.
- Avoid high doses of iodide during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Patient information:
- Take special care with previous hyperthyroidism or goitre.
- Inform doctor about iodide intake before radioiodine examination or therapy.
